Vintage Beauty Shoot

It had been a while since I had done a beauty shoot. I thought is was time to brush up on my beauty lighting skills. A look at Google maps revealed the vintage hair and beauty salon Lipstick, Lashes & Locks is very close to where I live.

I contacted them and they agreed to a collaboration. I let them figure out the styling and they were quite happy to source models for the shoot as well.

I had already collaborated with the first model, Moa, in the past, but I hadn’t realised she’d make a good Brigitte Bardot look-alike.

Doesn’t she look like Brigitte Bardot with her 1960’s hair style?

I always take a close up photo for the makeup artist’s portfolio.

I love props. They give the model something to interact with and it can help them relax.

Next time, I’ll check the sunglasses are free of finger prints. It took me a while to clean them up in Photoshop.

Another advantage of props from my point of view is that it can show potential clients how to promote their products with models.

The second set-up was another retro 60’s look. Caitlin is an experienced model and it was very easy shooting with her. We got many good photos, and it was difficult to make a selection. A nice problem to have.

Having the model tilt her head sideways showcases the flower in her hair.

I would not typically direct the model to tilt her head this far to one side. But here it works.

Did a few without the coat and with a glass. Once you introduce more than one prop, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Another close up for the makeup artist.

Finally, the third set-up was all about hair. We didn’t explore the look as much as the others as it was getting late.

The salon owner really wanted to have the model play with her hair.
