Family Shelfie

A few years back I had done a few composite self-portraits. One of them I called “Shelfie”, where I was sitting on a book shelf.

My client Daniela loved that photo and had told me she wanted something similar with her family. It took some time for all the pieces to fall together but it finally happened.

I had the family sit on the dining room table and took quite a few photos before the children totally gave up on the project. The original idea was for a happy family, but sometimes reality gets in the way. She and her partner decided this would be the photo. I found it resonates better with the viewers than a happy family picture. Funny trumps happy. Don’t you agree?

Technically, the key to selling a composite like that is matching the lighting in the two photos well. In this case, one light camera right and up.
