Dance Photography in Old Town Edinburgh

The Old Town of Edinburgh at night is a great location for photoshoots. I wanted to explore this a bit more. So I asked Stefi, with whom I had worked before, if she’d be interested.

Luckily for me, she said yes. First, we went back to the location I used with Anna. It was cold then and we didn’t have the time to “work the subject” as much as I would have liked to. The lighting setup is the same. One speedlight behind camera right and one speedlight camera left to light  the dancer.

My favourite.

Stefi wore black trousers, and I changed the colour to blue in Photoshop for a better separation with the background.

Tried a slightly different composition.

Changed the position of the light and the composition.

Finally, we looked for another location. I had always been interested in Victoria Terrace but never got an opportunity to shoot there. This was the perfect time to have a try. The photo below was the only pose Stefi liked. I definitely will give this location another try.

Would love to try this location during the blue hour., when the sky isn’t completely black.
