The fall colours called for a witch-themed shoot in the beautiful forest of Roslin. My friend Jusztina Hermann of Delighter\u2019s theatre<\/a> loves this location and we had talked about a photoshoot there a while back.<\/p>\n

The first set up involved a shallow depth of field of Jusztina handling fire against a backdrop of autumn trees. In order to saturate the background colours, I underexposed which meant I had to use a speed light on Jusztina to get her properly exposed. No really fancy lens needed, just a 50mm f1.4 wide open.<\/p>\n

Until the fire petered out.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

For the second set up, we used a hollow tree. I waned to create some dramatic light, so I underexposed the background and lit Jusztina\u2019s face with a gridded speedlight. I just moved in with my 50mm still on.<\/p>\n

The hands and fire added quite a number of extra pose combinations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

So I took many pictures.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I prefer the hands a bit further down as in the first couple of photos. What about you?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s good to shoot a lot of frames, but you also need to know when to stop and not tire out\/bore your subject.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Unfortunately, the session was cut shot as it started raining. It was too bad because I could easily think of three or four more set ups to be shot there. Maybe next time.<\/p>\n
