The Red Bus company<\/a> has three vintage double-decker buses available for hire. They do bespoke transport for weddings and corporate events. I\u2019m sure you can hire one of their buses for a birthday party as well.<\/p>\n

It turns out aerial artist Rosella Elphinstone<\/a> was working for the Red Bus company last summer and she asked me if I\u2019d be interested in doing a photoshoot with one of their buses.
\nNeedless to say I jumped at this opportunity.<\/p>\n

The shoot took place in the parking lot of their depot on a beautiful sunny late afternoon.<\/p>\n

For the first set up I had Rosella backlit. You can see the rim light from the sun on her hair and arms. In such situations, if the background is correctly exposed, the front of the subject is too dark. So I used a speedlight camera right to light Rosella.<\/p>\n

We next moved inside. The inside of the bus was significantly darker than the outside, much more so than the camera could handle. I lit it with a speedlight behind Rosella and another one camera left.<\/p>\n

By then the sun was sufficiently low on the horizon that it gave us some beautiful golden hour light. Time to get back outside.<\/p>\n

I asked Rosella to repeat some of the poses with this new composition.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With the rear of the bus now in shadow, we could shoot some more acrobatics.<\/p>\n

It would not have been safe to shoot this with the bus in motion. So I added a bit of motion blur to the background in post-production.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We then asked the driver to move the bus so we could shoot some different front lit poses in the golden hour light. It was around half past eight.<\/p>\n
