I did my first circus themed shoot with Amy and Saya on Portobello beach. I talked about the shoot in a previous blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

They do aerial performances as well as acrobalance, so they were interested in getting some promotional pictures of their double aerial act.<\/p>\n

There are a few places in town where you can rig silks, a hoop or a trapeze, but I\u2019m told that Dance Base is the most convenient one. It was quite familiar to me, since I had not only shot some dancers but did an aerial shoot with Rosella<\/a>.\u00a0One advantage of that location is that it allows one to either shoot against a dark (black) background or a light one.<\/p>\n

They started with a blue outfit and we went with the dark background. It is a little more challenging to light two people, but I went with the same lighting set up I used with Rosella. A main light either to camera right or left, depending on the situation, and a couple of rim lights to help separate the subject from the background.<\/p>\n

All of the poses created very interesting shapes and lines, making my job very easy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The only challenge was to fill the frame with the composition while not cutting and hand, foot or nose in the process.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The rim light on the left really helps separate Saya’s hair from the background.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

With the change to black outfits, it was best to shoot against the light background. We got quite a number of poses done, and I were quite pleased with the results. I believe Amy and Saya were too.<\/p>\n
