Vintage Shoot in Stockbridge, Edinburgh

You may recognise Rosella Elphinstone and her vintage dress from another blog post. She had wanted to do another vintage shoot with her actor friend Luke Aquilina.

We settled on Stockbridge as a location. It is a very picturesque area of Edinburgh, often used in film and television dramas, with plenty of old buildings. I wanted to shoot at night, for a different look.  I have plenty of images shot during daytime.

One of my favourite locations in Stockbridge is Mckenzie bridge. Lots of elements of design: lines, shapes and textures.

We did a few shots without the top hat, since I was worried it would not be sufficiently distinguishable from the dark background.

We then moved around to find some old buildings where parked cars could be excluded from the frame. Todays vehicles clearly clash with the vintage look we were going for. We didn’t shoot too many pictures as it got pretty cold when I finally found what I was looking for.

Rosella picked this photo, but I’m not very happy with the way her head overlaps with the door behind her.

I think this is a stronger composition. Don’t you?
