Vintage Dress Light Painting

This was another personal project with Rosella. Her vintage dress was featured in a previous blog post. While I had already taken pictures of her in that outfit, I really wanted to do some light paintings.

She mentioned the living room at her parents’ place had a nice vintage look to it, so it was the perfect location for a shoot. No need to travel in the attire or change on location. Much simpler.

The challenge in this sort of light painting is not forgetting to light some part of the scene. With a relatively small LED light, it can easily happen.

It is easier for the model to stand still during the light painting if she’s sitting down. I usually start my light painting sessions that way.

It is not practical to shoot as many poses as during a regular photo shoot, but I like to try two to three poses per light painting set up.

Rosella turned out to be so good at standing still I had no problem doing a light painting with her standing up.
