I’m always on the look out for long exposure photography opportunities. Jusztina Hermann of Delighter’s Theatre and I collaborated on a long exposure shoot involving LED hoops. We both loved the results.
So when Justina mentioned she owned LED sticks that produce blinking patterns, I knew we had to do another long exposure photoshoot.
Technically, it is quite straightforward. First find a dark background. In our case it was the Dunsapie Loch car park after sunset. I lit my subject with two speedlights. the first flash camera left slightly in front of Jusztina and the second speedlight camera right behind to provide some separation from the background. You can see the highlight produced by the second flash on Jusztina’s left arm and leg. I had the flashes fire at the beginning of a 5-6 second exposure. The rest was up to Jusztina. We were both very pleased with the results.
After a change of costume, we pressed on.
