I really like nature as a location for dance photography and on this day with Jorja the light was just gorgeous, with the sun relatively low on the horizon.
As usual, I like to go around the location and properly scout it before settling on a spot. I had noticed the path under the woods, but I knew from experience it would require some extra light to get the photos I wanted. So we first shot outside the woods for Jorja and I to warm up. I’m not showing any of these photos because they didn’t come out as well as the second and final set up.
I had one speed light on Jorja from camera left to remove the shadows on her face and one speed light at the back camera right to mimic the sun and give my subject some rim light to separate her from the background.
And in postproduction, I changed the colours of her outfit to provide better contrast with the late summer foliage in the background.
